Problems with XP booting.

Hello. I have a quick question for you all. Maybe you can point me in the right direction atleast. Have an old computer with XP sp3. This thing all of a sudden began to boot to a black screen and an error. Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM.

So, I tried to repair that in the recovery console using the code below that I got from the Microsoft Support Page.

md tmp
copy c:\windows\system32\config\system c:\windows\tmp\system.bak
copy c:\windows\system32\config\software c:\windows\tmp\software.bak
copy c:\windows\system32\config\sam c:\windows\tmp\sam.bak
copy c:\windows\system32\config\security c:\windows\tmp\security.bak
copy c:\windows\system32\config\default c:\windows\tmp\default.bak

delete c:\windows\system32\config\system
delete c:\windows\system32\config\software
delete c:\windows\system32\config\sam
delete c:\windows\system32\config\security
delete c:\windows\system32\config\default

copy c:\windows\repair\system c:\windows\system32\config\system
copy c:\windows\repair\software c:\windows\system32\config\software
copy c:\windows\repair\sam c:\windows\system32\config\sam
copy c:\windows\repair\security c:\windows\system32\config\security
copy c:\windows\repair\default c:\windows\system32\config\default

That was the first step that the page gave. The second step required a boot into safe mode. K this is where the problem comes in since that fix worked to a point. Now the computer doesn't give the error anymore but just gets stuck while trying to go into safe mode (Black screen full of files, which is normal booting into safe mode, but then nothing). No desktop.

When trying to boot normally or last known good, the computer seems to boot fine until it gets to the Windows xp splash page or load page. It's supposed to load all of the hardware drivers and things like that and then go black for a few seconds and then BAM, give me the desktop right? But instead, after the windows load page does it's thing and the screen goes black, it just stays black. No desktop.

Also, I can't get back into the recovery console anymore. When I was there earlier and did the fix above, there was no admin password. Just hitting enter let me in. Now, hitting enter does not let me in, and after 3 times I have to restart, which is normal if you have a password that you don't know or forgot or whatever. But this one never had a password to begin with.

Is there someone that can maybe just point me into the right direction with this?

Thanks for any help.

BROLY OUT!!!!
