I've installed Windows XP SP3 x86 on an SSD. It goes through the installation process just fine, but after I install the various MB, video, printer drivers, reboot fails with "BootMgr is missing" unless the installation CD is physically in the drive.
With the disk there, it boots just fine. I've tried the repair route.
This is an AMD64 system. I've used an XP64 disk to do fixboot and fixmbr because of that, still no joy.
I have tried using a Win7 disk to do the repair, but it does not detect the XP installation at all.
Hair-pulling time. Ideas, commentary, salvation solicited.
