Upgrade Win 2000Pro to XP Home

A friend is going to try to upgrade his Win2000 Pro to Win XP Home (Upgrade Disk). He doesn't have his 2000Pro disk so I suggested this process.
Boot from the XP Home CD,
when prompted, put in Win ME Disk then proceed with the Win XP Home upgrade.

Should this work? Will Win XP install properly, or is there something that is retained from the 2000Pro install?
Any input will be appreciated.
