Hi everyone,
Lately I've been noticing empty folders with random names following two templates (examples "_555781_" and "2c11f319d99f7d82361282acaa") getting created in the My Documents folder every day. This is bothersome because I have all my main data under My Documents, and having so many randomly named folders in between makes it hard to find stuff, and so I've been deleting them daily for the past few days, which is becoming annoying. Such folders also appear under c:\, where they additionally also take names such as "MSI8990.tmp". On this PC, I've defined My Documents to be the root of my second partition (D:\).
The only change I can think of that coincided with this problem is that the day before it started, I'd installed iDrive and configured it to do daily cloud back-ups. However their techies say their app is definitely not the one creating those folders.
A much more likely candidate is, in fact, Windows Update. Thinking about it, a while ago I did use to see a couple of these folders (but no so many!) appear under My Documents every once in a while - but crucially, not every day! I am 99% sure this has to do with Windows Update, but I don't know why their creation frequency is now daily.
My PC is running Windows XP SP3 and (should that be relevant) has Office 2010 installed. Another forum message with a similar problem suspected a link with opening Word documents, which I wasnt able to reproduce here.
Thanks in advance for any help!
