I am working on a friend's Dell Dimension 3000 that came installed with XP Home that is no longer under warranty for free support. I have never dealt with this problem before as I build my own PCs so I am hoping someone in here can help me to help him.
When I turn it on, once it gets to the desktop I get the message that I need to validate Windows....would I like to do it now....I click yes and then nothing happens. It hangs at the desktop screen with no icons and does nothing. Is there a way to get back to the window where you put in the COA?? I am wondering if he typed the code in correctly when he did it because I know one wrong digit can wreck the process. I have also tried to boot it up in safe mode but then get the message that it can't be validated in safe mode. I am at a loss.
