XP will not install after Linux/Wipedisk

Dear all

I bought a new hard-disk that I intend to dual boot with Linux Mint and XP. However, I did the mistake of installing Linux first. When I try to install XP SP3 afterwards the installer shuts down with the message (or one very similar, I found in on the net. It may not be exactly the same):

"A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. Check for viruses. Remove any newly installed HD's, or HD controllers. Check to make sure it is properly configured and terminated. Then; Run CHKDSK /F to check HD corruption, and restart computer. "

I have tried tools from Hirens Boot CD. Restoring the MBR with one of the tools on this CD does not work. I have also tried to wipe the disk with Seagates tool, but I still get the same message when I try to install XP afterwards.

Additional info:
- I do not get as far as to the "repair" option in the XP installer
- Linux Mint installs fine
- It is a Dell Optiplex 330
- The disk is a Seagate Barracuda 2TB

Hope someone can help me..
