Old computer:safe file removal & then what?

I have and old computer, built in 2003. I'm considering giving away to a Homeless Shelter or put it the recycling pile at the local computer recycling center. My question is did I truthfully get all of my personal files off the disk?
I reviewed My Documents Folder and got all my files I want to keep on a Flash Drive and deleted everything without going to the Recycle Bin. I also used PC Tools Performance Toolkit to Bleach the disk of deleted files.
Do I need to do anything more? Do I need to remove all of my personal apps, like AutoCAD, Google Earth, PC Performance Toolkit?
